AI Risk Management and the Role of the DPO – Presentation at “DPOs’ Night”

DPO

On March 17, 2026, the team of SGK Legal participated in the “DPOs’ Night”, held at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, organised by the Alumni Association of the MSc in “Law and Informatics” of the University of Macedonia.

During the event, we delivered a presentation titled “AI Risk Management: The DPO’s Roadmap for the Next Day”, addressing the regulatory and practical challenges arising from the increasing deployment of Artificial Intelligence systems.

The presentation focused in particular on:

  • the interplay between the AI Act and the existing GDPR framework,
  • the identification and management of risks associated with AI systems, including bias, automated decision-making, and misuse,
  • the evolving role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) as a key pillar of effective AI governance,
  • as well as the importance of compliance and accountability tools such as the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and the Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment (FRIA).

As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in the operations of both private and public sector organizations, compliance is no longer merely a legal obligation, but a critical enabler of trust, transparency, and responsible innovation.

At SGK Legal, we closely monitor developments in data protection and AI regulation, supporting organizations in building robust compliance and governance frameworks.

We would like to thank the organizers for the invitation and all participants for the insightful exchange of views.
